PHONICA 5TH BIRTHDAY This Friday !!!

From Guillaume (Crew), on 2008-11-27 at 14:20

On Friday 28th November, Phonica Records (london) celebrates its fifth birthday with a bash at London’s Corsica Studios ; music comes courtesy of Sebo K, Prins Thomas and Peverelist.

With independent record emporia around the world closing down at a frighteningly rapid rate, we’re excited our friends @ Phonica’s store in Soho to reach its 5 th birthday. Quality, Passion & Focus pay off. Congratulations & best whishes for the future!

The diversity of the shop is reflected in the distinction of the guests assembling to play this birthday party: Mobilee’s Sebo K , surely one of the most dynamic deep house and minimal DJs on the planet; boundlessly entertaining, dancefloor-wrecking disco kingpin Prins Thomas, Peverelist , Bristol-based purveyor of techno-tinged dubstep and proprietor of Punch Drunk; and, last but not least, Phonica co-founder, BBC Radio 1 DJ and Get Physical girl-about-town, Heidi .

These headliners will be joined by the annoyingly talented Phonica DJs: Simon Rigg, The Vangelis, Hector [whose debut single 'La Raza' came out on Dinky's Horizontal label earlier this year], Anthea, Ben (Skull Juice), Damon Martin (Disco Bloodbath), Raimo, Ricky (Udio) and FACT’s very own Antony Hill.

The festivities run from 10pm-6am, and advance tickets are available at £10 from Phonica and www.residentadvisor.net , with tickets on the door going for £12.

15K Highlights So Far

New Voting Algorithm

From J3Concepts (Crew), on 2008-11-26 at 05:14

We are pleased to announce a major improvement to the laFraise voting system.

Until now all laFraise members’ votes were equal. That meant somebody who had signed up just yesterday and a long time laFraise fan would have the same say in what design should or should not get printed. What seems fair at first glance turned out to be quite unfair in some cases where people started cheating using fake accounts. This distorted the feedback designers got out of the contest and also gave us a hard time when selecting winners because we closely look at the scores as well.

A new algorithm to the rescue!

To make cheating unattractive and bring fairness back we are changing the calculation of the overall submission score. Each member’s votes are now multiplied by a voting weight that corresponds to their activity in the community. That way the votes of members that have a long history of commenting and voting on submissions for example will get more weight. Among the other factors that give members more voting weight are uploading submissions and of course winning a contest as well as some we would like to keep secret for now.

The new algorithm will be at work starting today and we think it is a great improvement to the overall system but also to the actual fairness of each user.

laFraise on Behance

Well it’s no mystery that us here at laFraise are fans of Behance, so it was only a matter of time before we setup a laFraise portfolio with them. Feel free to check it out and if you are a member, feel free to add us to your circle.

We’ve already uploaded a few designs from the shop. We’ve tried to vary the styles shown in the portfolio. Don’t feel bad if your design isn’t in our portfolio yet, we have alot to upload still :)

There are already a few dual laFraise and Behance members including Cuypi, Dacosta Bayley, Charuca, 123klan, Camilla D’Errico, Filter017, Niark1 and myself to name a few.

Thursday Game!

From J3Concepts (Crew), on 2008-11-20 at 13:23

Everyone on the blogs seem dead lately, so lets spice it up. The winners get enough BR (credits) to get themselves a free tee. This is an easy one.

All you have to do is post 1 vector artist, just 1. And I’ll pick the top 3 I like and whoever posted that artist will win.

Also I will personally contact each of those 3 artists to participate in the 15k Contest

I’ll give you guys 1-2 days to come up with an artist. And remember you can only post 1 (one) artist and they can’t currently be a member of laFraise. (please include their website link)

Good luck!

The Perfect Ending

From J3Concepts (Crew), on 2008-11-19 at 13:36

I always like sharing new artwork of mine with you. At the suggestion of my manager, I’m doing a few more classical portraits in my original style from a few years back. Most of these will be for a gallery show. This specific piece is a revision of a piece I did a few years ago. This one is for my wife of my wife. There are 4 colour variations available in 1920×1200 resolution for your guy’s desktops. You can download the full pack here
