Guest of the Week: Marius Bauer (Sublevel)

From J3Concepts (Crew), on 2009-07-28 at 15:00

This week’s “Guest of the Week” is Marius Bauer, or as you might know him, Sublevel.

Gaia3

“First of all I would like to say that I am doing very good today. Thanks to laFraise for this great feature. Thank you very much!

My name is Marius Bauer and my current residence is Munich, Germany. I grew up in the southern area of this Bavarian capital city in a rural area. There has always been an interest in nature so my environment was a
wonderful place to discover new things everyday. During my school days I had three subjects, well let´s say I had three subjects I did not like the most. Geography, Math and Arts. Especially Arts since the first grade
I got was an E- that day. Good start, wasn´t it?

After finishing school I began studying at the Academy of Munich to become a primary teacher which has been my job for the last couple years. I always enjoyed doing creative things, especially freestyle drawing and making music with the kids. It was a great time I really don´t want to miss. Greetings to everyone who might read this of you guys!

Last year though, there have been some changes in my life which gave me the opportunity to make my wish come true.
Start working as a freelance graphics designer.

Store2

My interest in graphics and digital art in general started during the early 2000´s. I have been following artists like the russian Vladmimir Shelest and the well known Interactive Firm.
Both kept on impressing me with a kind of art I haven´t experienced before. Digital design apart from traditional school arts teaching. A creative, free minded way to express your style and thoughts. This new kind of lifestyle and way of thinking was something that brought fresh air into my own lifestyle. So I could not do anything else then digging deeper into the hole of graphics design and came to one website which is an indispensable crossroad on my way. The customizing community Customize.org. A website with a pheonemal and so outstanding great community dedicated to excellent interface design. This website also gave me the first confirmation and featured one of my first desktop wallpapers back then (http://customize.org/wallpapers/23153). Customize.org and it´s community members always encouraged me to keep going this way and improve my work. It was my home, digitally said, for the next few years.

After a while I discovered other communities like deviantArt. I made good friends there during that time which are good friends and coworkers to this day. They helped create projects like the iDesk or the Gaia project with me.

Gaia4

Two years ago I started my Agency label Sublevel.us. After my first serious clients projects were realised I wanted to have a place to showcase my work and professionalize it more.
Since that time it´s going great and I don´t regret this choice. Even in the hours of hard work finishing a project. Illustrations and interfaces became my two special fields which I enjoy the most.
During the last months I got really interested in printing work and started my own Store featuring talented designers one at a time. The last feature was laFraise´s very own Jared Nickerson.

Speaking of printing work, laFraise is playing a big part in the professionalization of my work and portfolio. The first comission Unity was a really, really huge surprise for me. I won´t forget the Monday as I woke up and could not believe the title of the mail I got that morning. I kept on telling my girlfriend and myself it´s spam coming from some other site. Luckily I opened it and found a serious invitation by laFraise. You really made this day one of the most beautiful days in my life. Beside that the great artist support by laFraise made things possible I would have never imagined during my first days. Being featured on a show for the renowned Galeries Lafayette or part of the Lodown Magazine show this year where two more special moments regarding my work with laFraise. So yes, that´s the current state.

Artbag1

At the moment I am working on three big client projects which will be presented on my website Sublevel.us once they are finished. One project which grew to be a very important one during the last two years is a release which was born by the community I mentioned earlier at Customize.org; The Gaia Project. A community project to raise awareness for climate change. I won´t say much about it now because it will be actually published at the end of this week.

If you are interested I am looking forward to see you on the Gaia website on August, 1st.
Thank you very much for this feature and be sure that I appreciate every little bit of support from everyone here on laFraise. Speaking of the crew and the community!
Keep on doing this great work everyone!”

Thank you Marius!

laFraise supports a new charity project in Spain. The V FESTIVAL “DJs CONTRA LA FAM” (DJs Against Hunger) is a benefit electronic music and visual arts festival. This all day event (12am-12pm) will take place in Barcelona today at the Mercado Fira de Bellcaire (Encantes Viejos).

laFraise will support “DJs CONTRA LA FAM” through the provision of the crew shirts for this year’s event. The shirt has been designed by Cuypi (THANK YOU!) and is available in the shop in a very limited edition from now on.

LENA HOSCHEK-FASHION DESIGNER

From alex_(crew), on 2009-07-23 at 18:00

Lena is known for making traditional Austrian ‘Tracht’, or national costume cool. This season, the designer booked us a holiday in a fifties Italian seaside town. Think The Sound of Music goes Riviera in a Fiat 500. Dolce far niente in flattering floral silks. This is an Italian job well done.

A little hint: usually, the dresses sell out in no time, so hurry.

Just weeks after wowing Berlin Fashion Week, rising Austrian designer Lena Hoschek paid a visit for cocktails at GLAM in honour of her very strong fan base. Her fifties inspired, but very now-looking outfits for classy pin-up girl chic really are a big hit here. Which probably has to do with the massive popularity Burlesque style enjoys among Zurich’s pretty & young. And indeed, as Lena demonstrates herself, Hoschek is best worn with a tatoo.

ps: The New Look pose and tricolor colour scheme also come in handy as a nod to Fête Nationale, the French national holiday.
