In this contest, it’s not just about your creative strengths, but also your hidden, rough and untested work which will be brought into the limelight to create a new look. Experiment with things which you have never trusted yourself doing before!
Anything which drips, splatters, splashes, is icky, and perhaps might not be the most aesthetic thing you’ve seen, has a chance in this contest. The important thing here is not to be just ugly or disgust those looking at it, but rather for the design to have its own natural charm, to bring its own type of aesthetic along with it and perhaps tell its own story.
The contest starts with a design from Martin Krusche “Grammophone Guy” which is quite drippy and the design’s main protagonist wouldn’t exactly be participating in a top model competition. Martin Krusche is the head designer and co-founder of the label “YACKFOU” in Berlin and has worked since his teens in the art scene. What began with graffiti, moved into graphic art and ended then in free illustration, especially for t-shirts.
The theme “Ugly & Drippy” has been chosen, as the inconsistencies and drips in Martin Krusche’s illustrations often express themselves in their own individual way.
