I begin with a reminder of the briefing: “We invite you to create an ode to mother nature, a design which represents the beauty and diversity of nature. You should not really focus on one theme, one animal or one plant, but more on the beautiful mess that nature is.”
This is what we had in mind when we selected the winner of GAIA’s contest. Besides, it is and this will always be our starting point for the selection of a special contest (otherwise what’s the point of giving you a topic and direction).
I wanted to remind you because we received some fantastic submissions for this contest that didn’t really follow the briefing.
Enough blah-blah… the Gaia contest winner is:

Beauty Nature by Konstantin Shalev
Here is the beautiful, colourful mess that nature is!

Terre-Mère by Kiwimee
We were charmed by this beautiful design, but we didn’t think it expressed enough of the natural diversity found in nature. Second place therefore for this design – at the same time poetic and sensual.
3th place: 1300 brouzoufs

Free the nature by Zafeu
Here is another interpretation of Mother Nature (and so cute) which does a good job at following briefing. And I would give out extra points for the small rabbit on the swing; a nice effect while in flight.
On 21 December 2012, there will be at least 500 people
who will know what to wear that day.

Prophétie by Conker is our selection for this week.
Printed on 500 galaxy laFraise’s shirts.

Congrats to you three and thanks to all participants.
Combining photography and sleek design, the Porsche Book will be a great addition to any coffee table. The book features 24 chapters of some of my favorite eras of Porsche design in 200 photographs of full color. The book is edited by Frank Orel and is the 4th Porsche book to his name with a 5th coming out this Fall. Now we just need one for Lamborghini.

Little bird by Cosmosnail
After the release of the elegant “little bird”, we wanted to get to know more about Cosmosnail.
Hi Cosmosnail,
Introduce yourself to the members of our community who don’t know you yet. Who are you, why did you start doing graphic design and what have you done so far professionally?
I’m a young graphic designer / illustrator and I live in Lyon. As most of the members of laFraise, I guess I fell into drawing when I was a kid. After I graduated from high school I turned to Graphic Arts and I actually failed in the subject Graphic Design!
Let’s talk about your new design “Little Bird”. What inspired you to create this design and how did you go about creating it?
I got interested in technical fragmented plans which have remarkable aesthetics. This design was at first a precision exercise which has transformed into this realization little by little. But I have to admit that the way I do work is a bit illogical: I sketch with a pen, and then I start in Illustrator before I make it dirty with Photoshop (I’m a bit upset with the smooth side of vectors). I always swing between those two programmes.
Who is your favourite artist?
Ashley Wood! I am very impressed with his work, he offers a real technical range and I’m not giving up and would like to do so too! This gifted Australian guy uses digital as well as traditional methods. If you are interested in comics and video games, you might have seen his work. I would really recommend people to have a look at what he does.
You can visit his blog or website.
I’m sure a chunk of you have an iPhone, and although there are a load of cases out there to choose from, there are very few that are worth your time.
I stumbled across Grove bamboo cases awhile back and got speaking with some of their staff and hopefully I’ll have a case on their soon, but until then make sure to checkout all the great artists they have lined up or you can even order your own custom case or a blank.
Some of my favs include:

This week, we celebrate the return of Jebs to laFraise with the selection of his design:

Lights, Camera, Animals!
Unfortunately, we don’t have any orange shirts in stock (please don’t hurt me!) – so Jebs will prepare a new version for us on a gold shirt (Pantone 1235C – yellow which has an orange feel to it).

After the release of the b eautiful “Drift away“, laFraise team has made an interview of Jacopo.
Hi Jacopo,
Could you please introduce yourself for the community who still do not know you? Who are you, how have you been into graphic design and why?
Hello, I’m a graphic designer based in Venice, Italy. I like to merge comical concepts with unique graphic features: axonometric and frontal views taken from old 8-16 bit video games, limited use of colours (almost exclusively two) and sharp and clean lines.
Can you please tell us the story of « Drift away»? How did you get inspired and which tools do you use to create designs?
In a marine city like Venice there are a lot of round-shaped platforms anchored to the seabed. So they look like huge plugs floating on the water. I decided to develop this concept into something funny and clever. After a pencil sketch I then complete my illustration with vector programs like Illustrator.
What is your favorite artist/designer at the moment? Why ?
Geoff McFetridge
Thanks a lot !
