Hellooooo

November was the time I put the new laFraise game online “Show off your laFraise style” and I must admit, I’ve been disappointed somehow because of the lack of participants but on the other hand, I’m very happy of the pics submitted.

Interview with TED BOUNDY

Pomelo is dead by TED BOUNDY

Citrus fruits’ killer ! Pomelo is dead is the new funny tee shirt at laFraise, designed by TED BOUNDY who delivers a very nice interview.

Hi Ted Boundy

Could you introduce yourself to those in the community who don’t know you yet? How and why did you get into graphic design?
I’m Teddy B (Which explains my pseudonym, I’m 34 years old and a graphic designer.
I drew a lot as a child, well I was playing with my drawings like others play with toys: it was some crossing-out for laser pistols and big scrabbles for explosions which gave some rhythm to the fights of my imaginary superheroes. I’ve always been drawing something and naturally I went to art school after I have graduated.

After 5 years of studies, I traveled to Indonesia and had a brief stay in a start-up, a job at la Fnac record store, I became a graphic designer for a small agency which works for big food brands. laFraise came afterwards and it was a perfect way for me to practice illustration: No constraints and no orders, the occasion to go on playing with images and money to travel now and then on this beautiful planet (and thanks to laFraise for that).

Can you tell us the story behind “Pomelo is dead”? What inspired you to create this design for the Bloody Cute Contest? Did you have any difficulties?
I love to humanize objects in general, add eyes to an egg or a fruit and make it in an absurd situation and it’s a lot of fun (I’m a big boy …) I’m much more a fan of the idea rather than the realization and what I most enjoy is creating the first sketches, when I tell myself a story and I laugh at my idea. After putting the final touches, the software and the work on the image, the adult comes back and makes the first sketch more rational. For Pomelo is dead, I do not remember when the idea came out, probably during breakfast, my brain isn’t working at 200% when I wake up.

Have you ever had a lack of inspiration and what do you do?
Arggh, white page or white screen, the big white … The best I think is to change your activity, hunt a bear, parachute out of a plane, insult your neighbors or go out for a coffee, and of course surf sites like ffffound … well take a break and it comes back.

Who is your favorite artist/designer at the moment? Why?
I like easy and simple designs, illustrators like Simon Oxley or Sasha Barr and everything that is a bit retro 50’s but I do not have an exceptional culture on graphic design and illustration. I prefer a good science fiction book or comics. The last blast I’ve seen was with “Monkey Bizness” by Pozla and El Diablo, a big scenario blast and a great cutting with “L’habitant de L’infini”, a great manga for lovers of Japanese swords.

If you weren’t a graphic designer, what would you have done for a living?
I love traveling and I love coming back with weird objects, I could have seen myself in a little shop selling rag-bags with strange objects to bargain hunters.

Do you like fruit?
Pink grapefruit with a drink which ends with ka.

Do you feel closer from the real Ted Boundy, the serial killer or the one of the TV show “Married with Children”?
I’m Al from the TV show and there is a O in my Boundy o like Funny (Rigolo in french) but I keep my family to me.

A last word?
Kisses to my Boundy family with an O.

masterofdisguise

Master of disguise by WanderingBert

A stupid Chameleon which tries to disguise as it has already the power to change its color ! WanderingBert offers us a nice interview for thius funny shirt !
Hi WanderingBert, nice to talk to you again!

How came the idea for « master of disguise »?
This came from the idea of how an unintelligent chameleon would try to disguise himself instead of changing colours- so I gave hime a silly disguise that you might see in a cartoon or movie- maybe something like Inspector Clouseau would try and wear haha

Do you like Chameleons? Do you owe one or do you wish to have one?
Chameleons are pretty cool. They’re interesting to look at and can change colour! I think it could be fun to own one, but I might not be able to find it sometimes!

What is it like to live in New Zealand? Are you a traveler? If so, which countries have you visited so far?
Living in NZ is good. We’re a small country, but have achieved a lot for our size in the world. It can mean that it is hard to find a large audience for your artwork, but the internet is good for that anyway.

I haven’t done a lot of travel, but would like to in the future. So far I have been to Australia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand

What is your top 3 at laFraise?
Galactica

Lumber Jack

Save the Planet

What is your favorite color and why?
I’m not so sure I actually have a favourite colour, but I do find myself using blue a lot.

What do you read at the moment? What do you listen to? Does music or books inspire you?
I don’t normally do a lot of reading, but lately I have been reading The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings. I have a lot of art books which I look a lot as well. I’m always listening to music while I work. I like pretty much anything rock-y. Lately I’ve been listening to Muse quite a bit.

I’ve seen that you’re a photographer as well, a passion or a job? What is the difference for you between graphic design and photography?
Photography is just something I do for fun. The difference between design and photography for me is design is more creating something new and photography is taking something that exists and creating a new way of looking at it. Although I do like to take photos in a graphic mentality looking at shapes and colour and composition.

Any wishes for 2011?
I would love to start developing a few more of my own ideas and characters to where I can make money from them and spend most of my time doing it. Right now i’m slowly developing in spacey, futuristic world, with a few characters and settings.

avez-vous-de-bons-yeux

Avez-vous de bons yeux? by Conker

A nice t-shirt with this pecular eyes-chart by Conker !

Hi Conker, pleasure to have you again for an interview!

I’m glad too .-)

« Avez-vous de bons yeux? » you submitted this design for the typo contest, how did you come up with the idea for such a design?

As always in my design, I play with the audience. The idea came when I was trying to read the eye chart, not letter by letter like we are use to and then I realized it would be fun if there was an encoded message on it. The sentence I’ve chosen refers to the sight and the time people could spend trying to read it and finding it stupid at the end

Do you wear glasses or contact lenses?

Nope and despite the fact that I spend 15 hours in front of a screen, I see well. I can’t even wear sunglasses, they itch and in the summertime, I walk with my eyes closed

Are you afraid of ophthalmologists?

Less than proctologists for sure!

What do you like in graphic design?

Sorry but this question is stupid! I will try even if I’ve already have explained it sometime and somewhere … What motivates me is creativity, getting from a white page to something, nice or ugly, complete or not, we start from nothing and we always succeed into doing something. And if you’re lucky, you touch someone’s heart with your work and you win!

What is your biggest fear?

To stay in the same theme, and you know why I never wear glasses, I must admit that Avatar in 3D was terrifying: 3 hours with glasses on my nose!!! Arrrgggghhhhh Otherwise I’m not scared of anything when I think about it and fear shouldn’t be a feeling that comes out of humans, nothing good comes from it.

What are your top 3 laFraise shirts?

Woah … so hard to say – there are so many good ones… but from the recent ones I would say :

Lucifer by Ndikol,

Beauty Nature by Konstantin_Shalev

The reader by gums

Do you like soft-boiled eggs, omelets, hard-boiled eggs or poached eggs?

Soft-boiled.

Do you invested in a cause, if yes which one? Otherwise which one would you like to get into ? Why?

I fight against fatalism, I can’t bear hearing “I can’t anymore”, “I feel very down”, crisis or no crisis, we have to keep going and resurface and cheer up. I like heartfelt things and have a positive attitude even if the situation stinks. Things are worse elsewhere and this elsewhere is often not that far from us. Don’t we say “If you want to change the world, start changing yourself”. And to illustrate this, hear Zazie’s song “chanson d’amour” from her latest album.

What are your wishes for 2011?

I wish that I love my wife even more, that my children grow old and wealthy, a few prints on laFraise and peace in the world.

See ya
conker
