Please introduce yourself to those in the community who don’t know you yet? How and why did you get into graphic design?
Hello to my fellow strawberries,
My name is Vincent and I’m 22 years old and work as a graphic designer in a communications agency in Brittany. My first steps into graphic design started at school – like lots of you I guess – in my school notebooks. I always had the drawing bug, like a drug actually … A more concrete turning point was with laFraise of course. I have enjoyed my first posts to the gallery up to the full satisfaction of being selected. And this has increased my desire to keep on creating and developing my own style. It’s not fully there yet but well like we said, learning by doing …
Can you please tell us the story behind “Are you really lucky”? What inspired you and how did you create the design?
To tell the truth I can’t remember how the idea came to me but I remember that I drew it directly on paper. Then I thought about this clover again and the vision of this luck symbol that could get cut or crashed without doing anything to stop it; it was a paradox I liked.
For the design, I did it from a sketch; I scanned it and then reworked it on Illustrator for the right colours etc. And it is difficult to quantify how long it takes to make a design because perfectionists or hard-to-satisfy people like me always come back on the design to constantly refine the details.
Who is your favourite artist/designer at the moment?
I do not have any particular one at the moment but there are so many that I couldn’t recall all of them. I can cite some of them I have discovered and still continue to discover for their poetry, their great ideas and perfect designs. Artists such as Mr Wayne, Georgelemercenaire, Vinsse, Beyond the Chuch (he has disappeared a bit from laFraise but his work is still a pleasure for the eyes), Akraf, Lulu, S-a-m, or even Bruno Mota. Have you ever had lack of inspiration and what do you do against it?
It’s always a bit frustrating when it happens. The best thing to do in that case is to try and change the mind: get out, walk, sleep, do sports, listen to music or even get a drink with friends; just try not to think about it for a while. Inspiration can come from anywhere and from anything (Even from a four-leaf-clover. :-))
Do you believe in happiness and what is your recipe for it?
Yes because it makes us move ahead. Everyday life will always be made from ups and downs and we have to try to stay on the top as long as possible. I do not think there is a miracle recipe, that would be too easy. As for me, the recipe for happiness is my family, frenzy with friends, music and drawing at least.
Have you ever found a four leaf clover?
Nope, but I have tried to stick a 4th leaf on a three-leaf clover, and it didn’t look that believable.
Do you like mow the lawn?
It is one of my numerous passions!! Along with oyster farming and Hungarian dramatic art from the 17th century! As for the lawn mowing, when I don’t have the time, I ask my sheep friends and they do it for nothing J
Do you have a message for the community or something you want to say?
I have lots of rants but let’s stay positive. Thanks to the community for their support and to the laFraise team and for this selection and interview as well. I wish everyone lots of good things for 2011.

A magic trick with GUS and his funny and humourous t-shirt and a nice interview : we learn how much he loves rabbits.
Hi GUS,
Please introduce yourself to those in the community who don’t know you yet? How and why did you get into graphic design?
Everything started in 1984 when the little GUS was born in the heart of the Alps in Grenoble. Gus was already drawing on his mom’s belly with his placenta. Then he became schizophrenic and started speaking about himself in the third person. But his illness gives him an overflowing imagination, and he can then express himself during art sessions, which take place at the hospital everyday for one hour. It’s just enough time to barely finish his work and then post it on laFraise.
Can you please tell us the story of “Hat out of rabbit”? What inspired you and how did you create the design?
I think it happened when I looked at my rabbit GIGI eating my straw hat. I always work first with a pencil; I do lots of variations before I take a picture of one of them and retrace it on Illustrator. The drawing itself is quite easy and quick to create but having the idea grow in your mind is something that takes a lot of time before it appears on paper.
Who is your favourite artist/designer at the moment?
At the moment, I love two friends of mine’s work, and both are getting started in graphic design, so I encourage them by speaking about them.

YEEEEEEES I love rabbits, I even adore them. I even got rabbit teeth fixed so that I could win the contest of the best rabbit outfit, during the CPDVL events. (Committee for the right to vote for rabbits)
Do you like magic and have you ever seen a magic show? Would you like to be a magician?
I am a magician, what kind of question is that? How do you think I succeed in being printed at laFraise with such designs?
What is your favourite hat trick?
To be printed on laFraise!! ABRACADABRA!!
What makes you laugh and what makes you crazy?
Funny stuff makes me laugh and unbearable stuff makes me crazy.
You have created OTRA, a shop for green jewellery – they are created with an inner tubes from bikes -. How did you get the idea ? Are you engaged in sustainable development?
We have created OTRA during these long winter evenings in Canada. We were alone in the cold streets, and we were wandering from garbage to garbage like lost souls. Suddenly we came across old pieces of used inner tubes. Starving, I decided to make it my meal. I got the tube, cut it with a cat’s bone, tailored like a knife. When manipulating this tube, I rolled it like liquorice and the image would attract the taste. And suddenly my girlfriend (Julie la gueuse) takes possession of my creation and gets the idea of making jewellery from it. So here is the beginning on the story.
Do you have any other passions other than graphic design and recycled jewellery?
Rabbits.

Would you prefer to be a penguin or a shark?
I would say a nice penguin, they are kind of cute and are always hanging out together and they seem to be having fun … but the shark always looks like he wants to argue.
What inspired you to create “Fonte des glaces”? Does it have to do with global warming or were you watching too much Cousteau documentaries?
Of course it is an allusion to the global warming, but George’s design “La dernière marche” also inspired me … I told myself that it would be funny to have sharks swimming around … so I made my own version of it. Otherwise I haven’t watched Cousteau for quite a long time but I’ve recently seen “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” once again J
How much time did it take draw and finalize this design?
I wanted to make it simple and I did it straight on Illustrator. I did one penguin and the rest with copy/paste … Well it took me 1h30, maybe 2h max …
Are you engaged in causes like animal or nature protection …?
I have responsibilities in a general way, I avoid engagements, which means I can avoid taking responsibilities.
What do you think about Hollywood stars who thought it was funny to have penguins on the red carpet in 30° weather?
Well you have to spend your time doing something and when you have that much money, where else are you going to spend it? Personally if I had money, I would like to buy a lion or something like that and put it in my 50 sqm garden …
Do you want to rant about something?
I can’t bear the precut packages anymore, when you pull the tab, one time out of two it doesn’t work and you have to finish with scissors.. That really gets on my nerves.
Do you drink Pastis, beer, whiskey or mulled wine as an aperitif?
Beer and mulled wine as an aperitif, whiskey for later on and Pastis exclusively when it is 40°…
Do you like cooking and what is your favorite dish?
I don’t really like cooking, I have always more urgent things to do but I appreciate the good food. I do not have any special dish but for when I am really hungry, maybe a magret de canard with a foie gras sausage and a large good red wine from the South West (I mean France here of course J)
A love message for 2011?
Make love and not war, or at least manage it over a chess tournament!
