This week’s theme: in your face!
These great designs will be printed in limited editions of 500 shirts:

Oups

Oups! by vinsse

Oh – that will teach you never to play around with death. Of course, we loved the mix of cute foreshadowing and morbid darkness. Homerun!

Pop Corn

POP Corn by fdegrossi

A great shirt for the summer! This corn cob is tired of his smooth baldness – and decided to do something about it. The self-inflicted, sun-inspired pop afro is all the rage!

•••

Second place: 1 free t-shirt

Acné

acné? by vaca

A crunchy version of acne which has made me think twice about munching down that next ice cream. Another fun summer-inspired design with humour that got it a second place spot.

•••

Third place: 1300 brouzoufs

Punk

Punk by xraysucks

Or how to groom a lion. That mane is so 19th century! We loved this cute illustration, but it was up against some tough competition.

Congrats to the winners and thanks to all participants!

We’ve selected two designs to be printed in limited editions of 500 shirts! Enjoy!

Génocide

Génocide by Graetz

We could feel their pain! This was a simple equation: strawberries + humour + blood = 100% laFraise. A first selection for Graetz – congrats!

Spring messenger

Spring messenger by nikor

We absolutely loved this shirt – all of the different facial expressions and characters make this shirt a joy to look at (and wear!). Also a first selection for nikor – congrats to you too!

•••

Second place : 1 free t-shirt offert

Ueberpirate

Ueberpirate by Queenmob

This is a really great design – filled with tons of detail in each of the pirates’ faces and bodies. It also reminded me of this painting by Blu in Berlin. A well-deserved second place!

•••

Thrid place: 1300 brouzoufs

Nudist

Nudist? by lemerou

A little something different than we are used to from lemerou – a nice funny design and we are glad to reward him for all of his submissions with this third place prize.

Le penseur

Le penseur by Massala.K

A new fun and art t-shirt at laFraise with “the thinker” by Massala.K

Hi Massala.K

Could you introduce yourself to those in the community who don’t know you yet? How and why did you get into graphic design?
I am in my 30s and graphic designer. I started studying science, but I got tired of looking the other way and I stopped everything (sorry mom) to come back to art studies (sorry again mom) and then be able to live my passion. My journey is hazardous but I don’t regret anything.

Tell us the story behind “Le penseur”? What inspired you and how did you create the design? Did you encounter any difficulties? Are you a fan of Rodin or fine art in general?
I’m not especially a fan of Rodin even if I recognize lots of energy in his work. The advantage with “The Thinker” is that everyone knows it and the Rubik’s Cube idea came on its own. I got my coloured pencils back and it had been a long time since I used them. I wanted “The Thinker” to be drawn traditionally and contrast with the smooth colours of the Cube. Classical Art and pop culture!

Who is your favourite artist/designer at the moment? Why?
I have been influenced by plenty of artists in my life but I will take the opportunity to talk about Ai Weiwei, a great Chinese artist and dissident, who has been arrested in his country for phony reasons. China still does not seem concerned by the lack of freedom and liberty there, nor do the Arabic countries, and that’s sad.

How do you manage to survive fighting against blank pages?
I do not have a recipe but you have to go out, be curious and live! There are times I’m afraid that my brain isn’t working anymore but fortunately when this happens, it doesn’t last quite long.

How did you find out about laFraise and how long have you been submitting designs?
Thanks to a friend’s t-shirt I tried to steal :-)  then I told myself that I should try doing shirts myself. And it gave me the opportunity to work with vectors, because before I used to find them shit. But not anymore! I think I’ve known about laFraise since 2007, if I remember correctly.

Do you like video games and which ones? And what about new technology – are you a real geek?
Oh yeah! I like adventure games the most like God of War, Assassin’s Creed etc. I do not like time-consuming things like WOW or other hard drugs. What I do is put myself into an autistic mood for a few days until I finish the game. And I’m a bad loser, ask my brothers; I even ritualized the “breaking” of the controllers. Otherwise I do not think I am a geek – new stuff, I always come to it but only after everyone else! What? Yes my Minitel is still working fine!

What scares you in life and what gives you courage?
I am afraid that I won’t be able to make my dreams come true, especially one but I’m not going to tell, I’m superstitious. What gives me courage? The fact I haven’t realized my dreams yet!

If you could change something in your life or in the world, what would you choose and why?
If I say ending world hunger, would you believe me? In an egoistic point of view, I would change my date of birth, so that I would have been 20 in the 70s and I would have experimented all kinds of drugs and I would see the Doors and Janis Joplin live in concert! Seriously I would like that we get back this care-free life that seemed to be everywhere back then.

Draw me a boat – thanks Massala.K!

Easter is just around the corner, its pastel colours, chocolate and decorated eggs, its rabbits and chickens … before you know it we’ll be searching through our gardens for eggs!

Rules of the game

-          Take the most beautiful Easter picture (house or garden decorations, Easter in the garden with the kids, yourself dressed as a rabbit or maybe even your garden dwarfs looking for the eggs). Basically your photo must have an Easter theme.

OR

-          Draw your own representation of Easter (all types of drawings accepted, sketches, pencil work or Illustrator as long as it follows the Easter theme)

Be imaginative and creative and show me what you’ve got! Let’s take a trip down memory lane!

Three lighting birds

Three lighting birds by Oxyd-Cygo

The community really loved this one and Oxyd-Cygo did a good job taking the popular theme (and often used) birds on telephone wires to another level.

A Forest

A Forest by Whiff

We really loved the colours in this design and the choice of shirt colour! The characters and action in the shirt are bound attract attention to the shirt’s wearer. We’re happy to add these great colours to the shop!

Second place: 1 laFraise shirt

Wrong bag

Wrong bag by Naolito

We thought this was a really nice design and very funny – but a little improvement with the parachute would really help make it even more awesome.

Third place: 1300 brouzoufs

Always nice to see some love notes from monry in the Gallery – another lovely typography design!

Interview with Pasquéoz – 4th round !

oops!

Oops! by Pasquéoz

The new and fun t-shirt at laFraise presented by Pasquéoz. Let’s learn more …

What’s the story behind “Oops”? What inspired you – Britney? The brown colour kind of confused us …

For the story, Oops is an old design that has never been selected (until now!). Even though I am a huge fan of Britney ……. (and see I have written more than 3 points to enhance the irony), the idea didn’t come on its own (Even if I know that deep inside, my gestures are somehow guided by a Britney song …..), nope the basic idea was to play with the colour of the t-shirt. And after some retouches, here we are! :-)

Were you saddened by Paul the Octopus’ death?

Nope! I was rooting for Germany and I didn’t find his choice for the final very patriotic!

Paul the Octupus

Have you ever drawn with Chinese ink?

BAC STI Art Appliqués = all techniques used during school are pushed back and basically banned after you finish classes. Yes I have tested it before, but not in the best conditions!

Do you like mammals or other marine species?

I love sharks but they certainly make it hard to answer the question about diving below.

Have you been stung by a jellyfish?

Oh yeah but I won’t tell the story in details … the end of the story it goes something like “he didn’t know what happened to him, our hero fled like a coward to the beach, abandoning behind him – on a ridiculous little floating mattress – his girlfriend!” not very glorious …

Do you going diving or do you want to someday?

So yes sharks … I would love to go diving but at a depth of more than 2,5 meters, my brain starts thinking about this nice little species.

Sea or mountains?

Mountains! But ever since that story about René, I have always been terrified to go hiking. I am simply afraid to see a big fat groundhog singing something other than Britney.

What is your favourite region in France and why?

I should stay faithful to my region and answer: Lille/Roubaix/Tourcoing/Wambrechies… But lately I’ve been to Uzès in south of France and I liked it!

Could you please draw me a sheep? J Thanks Pasquéoz !
