Please introduce yourself to those in the community who don’t know you yet? How and why did you get into graphic design?

Hello everybody, my name is Daniele, and I’m Italian, born in Rome. I’ve been drawing since I was a kid. I started working as editorial designer, then I moved to illustration and now I’m trying to focus on the t-shirt design world.

Can you please tell us the story of “Red fury” What inspired you and how did you create the design?

I love pop art, so I always put well-known icons in my designs, mostly references to video games or classic fairy tales and this is a good example. I wanted to do a Little Red Riding Hood design and I thought: What if the little girl had some superpowers to get rid of the wolf once and for all? After a few tries my choice fell on Chun Li’s hi-kick, directly from Street Fighter. Seems that it worked well! :-)

So I guess you love video games? Which ones are your favourites?

I do love video games, indeed! I grew up in the 80s, so C64 and coin op games were a big part of my childhood. I’d say The Last Ninja and Turrican series, Ghouls ‘n Ghosts and, of course, Street Fighter! Then, speaking about more recent games, even though they are 10 years old now, I’d pick Final Fantasy 7 and Resident Evil 2 as the most amazing games I have ever played.

Who is your favourite artist/designer at the moment? And you what do you like to draw the most?

The net is full of amazing artists, and communities like laFraise are a wonderful showcase of talents. It’s difficult to pick up just one!

What makes you laugh and what drives you crazy?

There are lots of things that make me laugh, but I can tell you exactly what drives me crazy: long queues at the bar to get a coffee and….. penalty kicks.

Do you have any other passions other than graphic design?

Music! I love electronic music in every shape and form. My room is full of records, decks and gears, and I love to play with music software. If I weren’t a designer, I would have been a producer!!

How long have you known laFraise and how long have you been submitting designs?

I’ve been a member since January I guess, and I started submitting straight away. But actually I’ve known the community for more than two years.

Have you got a message for the community?

laFraise: What is the story behind “we are all the same”? Do you mean that we are the same, animals and human beings? How much time did it required and how did you proceed?

I really want to convey a message about the fight against racism with this design “we are all the same”. life is beautiful because each of us is different. :o)

Inconnu masque : Are your designs inspired by children or their universe?

Yeah, I’m always inspired to create works from the children’s books that I’ve read .. because they look cute.

laFraise: You have a refined style in your design, and what kind of designs do you like to wear yourself?

I tend to like things that look neat and clean …  my room, for example, doesn’t really look like a room that belongs to a man. hahahahaha: 0) Honestly I’ve always liked things that are cute and funny like the illustrations on children’s books. That’s why I like to wear designs that have the similar style on children’s books.

laFraise: What makes you happy and what makes you crazy in life?

What makes me happy is that I can play and gather family and friends clustered together. Pollution makes me crazy because every time I go through my way of making difficult breathing.

laFraise: Have you already been on a safari? Would you love to?

I have, it was fun .. I saw animals that I’ve never seen at home. Pests like rats and cockroaches around the house sometimes annoy me so much .. Especially cockroaches, I hate their shiny body -_-

laFraise: Do you love video games? Which ones?

hahaha I really love playing video games like GTA 4. I could make a person bleed to death even with just one button …. hahahahahahaa

laFraise: What is the latest movie you’ve seen? What kind of movies do you watch?

Shootgun Love was the last movie I saw.. a Korean drama that was quite interesting. I usually like drama comedy movies, because in one movie I could laugh and cry. lol

Bubblausorus is the newest funny designer t-shirt at laFraise for all dinos lovers, a new design by Vinsse !

Hi Vinsse ! Are you ready for another interview? Because I am! :-)

Tell us more about your new design “Bubblausorus”. For example: What  inspired you? How did you create the design? How long did it take you to create? Is there a subliminal messages with the bubbles?

It is a typically nostal-geek idea, which was inspired by the old good video game “Bubble bobble”, which I first discovered on an Atari 520ste that I had when I was between 10 and 12 years old. This video game was transformed into another series called ”Puzzle bobble (bust a move)”, a game that we could play in old good cafés at the time.

As for the design’s conception, I did it in a classical way, with a pencil, and then I scanned it. I then refined it in Photoshop and colored it by using Illustrator. There’s no particular subliminal message, I’ve just tried to imagine these two characters in the most realistic manner, like a pre-historic reconstitution.

So you like Dinos and other small creatures? Do you like Pre-history and did you like this class at school?

Yes I do like Dinos and as a good Strawberry, I looooooove little creaturs in general, I think it’s quite obvious in my work, as well as for prehistory … I do not remember that much from school or what I’ve been taught, I was much more pre-occupied with bothering girls and laughing  with my friends.

Did monsters scare you when you were a kid? Do you have any remedy against them?

I grew up on a big farm in the countryside in the middle of nowhere and all that it includes at night: cracking wood sounds, little creatures wandering on the roof, big creatures in the outside world, the wolf’s howling … So monsters didn’t really scared me at that time. But after having lived 10 years in a city, now I’m scared to death when I go back to my parent’s house, and I do not have any other solution to drown my scares than with alcohol.

Do you like music and which style?

I live in/with music from mornings to evenings. I listen to everything all the time, no favorite style…just good music, that’s all!

What do you like to listen to when…

You do the dishes ?

You ride your bike ?

You drive in your car?

I do not have my driving license.

You sit in the bathtub ?

You’re drawing?

You have a romantic time with your girl?

What makes you laugh and what makes you crazy in life?

Politics! It makes me laugh, but it also makes me crazy at the same time – it is a two-edged sword.

Do you have any hobbies or passions outside of graphic design? Like sculpture, fishing…do-it-yourself stuff?

From March to October: I am busy with gardening…I just love it!

Are you addicted to playing video games? Which ones?

Adicted is a lot to say, but I play a little bit every day …I try to avoid too many captivating games…I play mostly on “Xbox Live” with “call of duty” during little 15-minute sessions several times a day. Afterwards I love playing with all Mario, Zelda on DS or on Wii. But for the story, with Georges we try to collect all generations of consoles, from the legendary Atari 2600 to the ps3. An example of a nice discovery from Georges is the « Intellivision » and the « microvision », which we own and it works!

Are you a movie-goer? What is the most recent movie that you saw?

I recently saw the movie Sweeney Todd by Tim Burton, and I must admit that I was kind of dissappointed with it. I’m quite a movie-goer, but I’m much more into TV shows, I love watching “The Big Bang Theory” …it’s fun J

How long do you know laFraise, and how long have you been submitting your designs?

I discovered laFraise at the end of 2006, and thanks to her, I’ve learned how to work with Illustrator and I developed myself in the area of graphic design! All thanks to the fruit!!

Do you have any message for the community?

First of all a BIG thank you, and as a conclusion, even though it’s a bit “beatnik” to say so… “Love each other” or something like that.

Cosmosnail : All my pleasure !

Tell us about your new design “Tapekey”, a design that you have re-submitted. What inspired you, and how did you create the design?

Cosmosnail : It’s a bit difficult to say. I couldn’t even tell you how the idea develops into a design. Most of the time, I draw something at my desk, but as soon as the idea is on paper, I need one full day to develop it. From a first sketch, I make a copy with ink, and then I scan and digitalize it.

Do you like Japan? What is your favorite country and why?

Cosmosnail : Of course ! Japan had this image for a long time as a promised land among all our graphic designers’ generation. Maybe it’s cliché to say so, but my image (and maybe that of other laFraise members) of Japan is of a culture, which was highly influenced by mangas and animes. The sweat drops and the eyes that we use are quite obvious eamples. As for my fave country, I would be tempted to say UK, but I do not know why.

Do you like music? What kind?

Cosmosnail : Not really, I’m part of these Beotian-types, unable to really appreciate music, If I like a song, it’s just because of an association with the moment it was played, a period of my life, or from a movie I watched.

What do you like to listen to when:

You are sad?

Cosmosnail : Running up that hill

Cosmosnail : L’intro de Megaman II.

You are tired?

Cosmosnail : PPPPPP the music from VVVVVV

What makes you laugh and what makes you crazy in life?

My girlfriend does both of them perfectly.

Have you got any other passions outside of design?

Cosmosnail : I think I’m quite the mono-maniac. When it’s not about graphic design, it’s about drawing; when it’s not about drawing, then it’s painting and even photography. When you love the image, you love it in all its forms!

Do you like video games? Which ones?

Cosmosnail : Yes I’m a true bulimic. Insomnia makes me play a lot. To name only a few: Baldur’s Gate ,Shenmue  ,The versus fighting by SNK, Mass Effect or even Red Dead.. I’m expecting the release of black LA from the same studio. Recently I played retro gaming again and it was fun to see this pixelised faces again and to be surprised at all the feelings we could have had with them.

How long do you know laFraise, and how long have you been submitting designs?

Cosmosnail : It’s been 3 years since I know laFraise, but I’ve been submitting for just a little more than a year.

Do you have a message for the community?

Cosmosnail : Eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day …
