Noisy detective by georgeslemercenaire

Georges impresses with yet another magically illustrated and detailed design. The smoke with its hidden images, the fox playing  a violin – there’s much left up to the imagination to discover what it all means. But we loved it!

Renegades of funk by Madcobra

Back in the day a pencil (remember those?) was used to get that tape back into cassettes (remember those?). This funky t-shirt design with hair pic is a classic for music fans who want to take a trip down memory lane.

UV Express by TED BOUNDY

A funny shirt for the summer if want to improve your tan. Well done TED BOUNDY !

Hi TED

Glad to see you again,

I’m happy to be featured on the blog and Hi to the new and oldest fans of laFraise!

What’s the story behind “UV Express”? How long did it take to create it and how did you design it? Is it a private joke or are you a big fan of UV yourself? An ode to the summer maybe?

Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away … nope it should have started with breakfast, some toast with my reptilian brain having control of it and with a graphic collision at the end. Everyday life and all small objects inspire me. As for the toaster, I had some designs of it on my computer from November 2010 (when I get an idea, I rarely draw it completely – I put it aside, get back to it, make sketches, think about it several times and it can take a long, long time) and at the end I kick my ass to finalize it. I prefer to feed my brain with such stuff like this blog.

As for UV, yes I am a big fan and I’m as orange as a construction site’s plug (without the phosphorescent strips). I’m going to Douarnenez this summer and I’ll be the most tanned person in Brittany gniak gniak. “In Brittany, good weather happens several times a day” as the saying goes, so I wish them lots of sun whenever possible!

Could you please draw your representation of “Closed for the summer, we’re on holidays”? Thanks TED

Pop Corn

Pop Corn by fdegrossi

A new funny shirt at laFraise, well done fdegrossi and find out how he made it !

Hi fdegrossi, nice to see you again soon !

Very happy to be here again, too!

What is the story behind « Pop Corn »? A funny design, how did you get the idea? How long did it take to make it and how did you design it?

There was a time when I wanted to make art with popcorn. I think this kind of food so much fun with interesting approaches to explore. The popcorn comes from corn, another kind of food that is very nice, so all I needed was to get a concept to connect the popcorn with corn. When I thought of the corn as a character, popcorn could be anywhere on your body, like a beard, a suit … then …. YEEES and AFRO, heated by the sun. It took me about 4 hours to do the drawing. In these four hours were about 2 hours just to set the colours. It was a very interesting hairstyle, and POP and POP CORN!

Could you please draw me your interpretation of “Closed for the summer, we’re on holidays”? Thanks fdegrossi

Holidays on Mars by Eown

A funny t-shirt for the summer holiday season ! Check the interview out !

Hi Eown, nice to see you again

What is the story behind « Holidays on mars »? Is it a dream to go there? Or is there an ironic story just behind?

The idea was to make laugh because it is the same when tourist make pictures but with a view from the space. And I’m happy that it was selected :-) I did lots of different versions for that design and I restarted doing it on photoshop.

And I plan to go soon; I’m just expecting my visa :-)

Could you please draw me your interpretation of «Closed for the summer, we’re on holidays»? Thanks Eown

Oups! by Vinsse

A morbid humor on this t-shirt designed by Vinsse who gives us explanation.

Hi Vinsse, nice to talk to you again!

What is the story behind « Oups! »? Well the grim reaper decapitating the kid … are you in a specific mood at the moment? :-)

As some of you might have noticed, it’s been a while I’m using this grim reaper character. In the first place, I’ve created a serie of comic strips and the idea was that Death was represented with a body and a soul of a child. So there is nothing to do with the mood of the moment. It is an old project readapted for a t-shirt. In the design, the grim reaper hits the boy but it is not its intention, it is a child itself that plays baseball, hits the ball strongly but its condition punishes it as it is made to spread death all around itself. But of course you can see whatever you want.

Could you please draw me your interpretation of «Closed for the summer, we’re on holidays»? Thanks Vinsse :-)

Witness

The Witness by Anythinggoes

We loved the Film Noir look to this design – so many details to be found. The contrast of black and white is excellent shadow work and the streak of red blood brings the design to life (no pun intended).

Touché

Touché by fdegrossi

The faces and human-like poses really sold this design for us (the ladies liked the left guy’s bum). Great details work with the textures and leaves bring the whole idea to fruition.

Moby geek

Moby geek by georgeslemercenaire

There are many fine details to enjoy in this design upon closer look, and is an especially fine design for any book-worms out there. I think Moby would have looked much better as a white sperm whale, as in the book, perhaps with a few scars. Close to a print, but perhaps the big prize will be yours with a few adjustments. Very nice illustration georges, as always!

Onion funerals

Onion’s funeral by Madcobra

We really liked this design and the humour behind it. But with pixel death so close in memory, we couldn’t really see a print in this design. The idea of fake/real tears makes this design such a poignant design.

Interview with Scroluna

Hi Scro & Pandaluna, happy to chat again!
The pleasure is ours!

beer-compo-nl

Beer by scroluna

What’s the story behind Beer, a joke around cocktail hour? Do you both like beer? What’s the association between sheep/beer? Because after the cow design, you have to explain yourself :)
Nooo… we are very quiet :) Yes after the milkshake and cow, the beer and the sheep, it was absolutely not intention. I (scro) had this idea more than a year ago, slumped on my terrace, looking at the moss between the tiles, and I asked myself what kind of idea could we do with the moss… and here it was (in French, the word mousse is the same for moss and the head of a beer). No need to look further, often it’s looking at things from a completely different viewpoint that creates good ideas. And you would have noticed that the association between beer and sheep is … so British! I also think that it’s this kind of t-shirt that may create a great interaction between the owner of the t-shirt and people looking at it in certain circumstances.

Pandaluna, could you please draw your own interpretation of Closed for summer, we’re on holidays?
