Two graphic t-shirt designs chosen for prints at laFraise!

July 1969

July 1969 by Coyote7

It’s a tough climb, but once you get out of the atmosphere the lack of gravity makes it a whole lot easier. Coyote7’s design is a great illustration with a cool sense of perspective and perfect for aspiring astronauts and space cadets.

Love love love

Love love love by xraysucks

We went for cute this week with xraysucks’ lovelovelove – the cactus and hedgehog theme has been tried before, but we were convinced by this design and the story behind it.

Second place : 1 free t-shirt

Apple tree

The big apple tree by Queenmob

We liked the style and colours in this design and it was very close to making the cut this week. Great detail work and mix of themes that we would like to commend with second place. Well done Queenmob!

•••

Third place: 1300 brouzoufs

Calorie bomb

How to make a calorie bomb by Mishan_D

A mouthwatering design – you just want to start licking the screen, or perhaps the shirt! We liked the integration of all sorts of sweets and the colours involved and thus award Mishan_D with third place!

iron gentleman by georgeslemercenaire

Iron gentleman by georgeslemercenaire

A graphic t-shirt for gentlemen and ironmen, you choose ! Did you know Georges knew a bit about the industrial revolution?

Hi georges, glad to chat again!

The same here, it’s always a pleasure and I’ve missed it! And let’s celebrate it with some music, a remix with AC/DC for the soundtrack of Ironman2 and maybe AC/DC will go for the 3rd.

And here is also a mix that made me laugh..

YouTube Preview Image

I am a big fan of film adaptations of comics, it usually doesn’t stick to the original, and when you’ve been fascinated by superheroes for 20 years, you’re attached to some particular details … well what was the question? :-)

What is the story behind “Iron gentlemen” and how did you get the idea? Was it hard to create and how long did it take?

There is a start with Steampunk like there was a start for retro-future stuff, and thanks to role players with comics and video games inside. When I saw lots of colleagues going in that direction, I wanted to try with some designs and started over with RETROBOCOP.

It’s an idea I’ve been working on for a while, I’ve got good feedback everywhere and I wanted to go on with it.

And my second design is GOSHT EATER1. Then as I got good feedback as well on this one, I continued with Iron Gentleman. You can find out the three of them in my Behance portfolio.

It took me some time to make this one but I kind of like brainstorming after all.

Do you like the industrial revolution and what is the major invention from the time for you?

It’s hard to choose a specific invention … One of the symbols from that time is the steamboat! I was very influenced by Walt Disney and I want to share with you one of Mickey Mouse’s first appearances on this boat:

But there are also two great trains.

But I like those kinds of things as well :-)

This time was really fascinating, the steam engine, the first machines and all of that. At that time, they missed X-wing and Bond PRL for sure :-)

Are you mostly Iron (Man) or gentleman?

I guess a bit of both :-)

Could you please draw your interpretation of the Indian summer?

Thanks to all of you!

Escape by Gprod

Escape by Gprod

A graphic design t-shirt to break the ice or the signal ! You choose and read the first interview with Gprod !

Hi Gprod !

Could you please introduce you to the members of the community who don’t know you yet? How and why did you start doing graphic design?

Hi laFraise, so there are people who still do not know me? What a scandal! J

Episode I : Graphic design and Me

I don’t have any other skills other than working on images and graphic design came naturally to me or the contrary, 15 years ago (Nope I am not that old) and I can’t do anything else J

What is the story behind “Escape” and how did you get the idea? Was it hard to create and how long did it take?

Episode II : THE “ESCAPE STORY”

Like with most of my designs, this one does not have any story. When I have an idea, I try to make it true and then I make something else. But giving life to a design is quite dead-still and it is why exploring this idea with a road sign was quite interesting. And maybe it is how the idea came. And I do not know how much time I needed to make it, I never count J

Did you pass your driving test on the first try?

Episode III: THE TEST

Yes m’dam and it was the biggest performance of my life … For the practical side, at least …

What is your favorite road sign?

Episode IV: Gprod TASTE

panneau Gprod

Classy or what?

Have you played the mile marker game?

Episode V: WHAT A QUESTION???

Yes I did … there is a trick in that question … But where?

Could you please draw me your interpretation of the Indian Summer?

Episode VI: EPILOGUE

PRINTS

Two great t-shirt designs selected to be printed at laFraise!

Cocktail explosif

Cocktail explosif by vinsse

That brain certainly takes a beating after a long night of debauchery. You could compare it to a hard fought wrestling match – and that’s exactly what vinsse did! We were quite surprised by the style vinsse uses – we hadn’t seen such illustrations from him before. It seems that the community (just like us) enjoy a drink or two (or 5) and would like to wear this as a warning on a night out. Well done vinsse!

Magic Light

The Magic light by MrWayne

MrWayne is back in the prints with this magic and imaginative illustration. It reminds me of Where the Wild Things Are, but has it’s own originality in the scene and lighting effects. Yet another beautiful illustration by MrWayne that you can soon add to your t-shirt collection.

Second place: 1 free t-shirt

Reckoning

Reckoning by cpagoaga

We’ve had a lot of retro music / computer designs, but this design had a sense of originality to it. We liked the scene and the premise behind the design, but it had hard competition with the winners this week.

•••

Third place : 1300 brouzoufs

I see blocks

I see blocks by georgeslemercenaire

Something a little different from georges – we liked the style. We couldn’t really pinpoint exactly what moved us about this design, but it kind of pulled us in a peaceful way.

Outsmart war

Outsmart war by Bubusam

A fun shirt with a chess play between Godzilla and King Kong. Bubusam explains about it!

Hi Bubusam,

It’s nice to talk to you again!

What is the story behind “outsmart”? Why this idea and how did it come to you? Why King Kong vs Godzilla?

‘Outsmart War’ came into mind because there are so many stories about creatures that attack cities. And those 2 most popular stories ‘Godzilla – Tokyo’ and ‘King Kong – NYC’ straight away step into the brainstorming process: what if they both attack each others’ city without any physical fighting? Yep, then why don’t they have a chess match to be the city ruler? That’s how the idea and concept came about.

Do you play chess?

Yep. Long time ago. Less now.

If you had to choose, would you be King Kong or Godzilla?

I like Godzilla more.

Please draw me your interpretation of the Indian summer, thanks!

Interview with Kooky Love

Natural vinyl

Natural vinyl de Kooky love

A great music t-shirt for all music & nature lovers ! Check out Kooky love’s first print at laFraise !

Hi Kooky love, nice to meet you!

Could you please introduce yourself to those in the community who don’t know you yet? How did you get into graphic design?

This is one of those questions that makes me think for hours. Ok, I will make it simple. Who am I? I’m Dina Prasetyawan aka kooky love, 33 years old, graphic designer for kids’ apparel in Indonesia and freelance artist. I’ve got the name of kooky love after I joined in threadless.com in June 2005. I’m just an ordinary guy who spends my life with a wife and a little daughter. I trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. I’ve always known I would be an artist or a designer as my dream career since I was a little kid. I’m a self-educated artist. I have never graduated from an art school/ college. I don’t have a degree in art. I have no style in art.

Since childhood I was brought up in a family that has always been on the move. If I count from childhood until I was a teenager, my family has moved as many as 7 times. It makes me have more acquaintances, friends, neighbours and relations of social relationships than other children who live permanently in one location. I am grateful for this. It has really enriched my social experience in the real world. It is also without my knowing has enriched the content and form of my artwork. Thank God.

What is the story behind “Vinyl story”? How did you get the idea? How long did it take to make it and how did you proceed?

The initial idea of Natural Vinyl is thus the story, I was actually preparing a design with another theme, namely, two cute animals holding a banquet at the afternoon tea party. As the banquet table and chairs where they sat down, I needed to find a reference image of the stump, and then suddenly I got the idea when looking at a stump with across section viewed from above. I saw the lines of tree age, looks like a classic vinyl record. Then I write down that idea, and I created it after the tea party between two animals was complete.

tea party_kookylove
Executing the design process long enough, I had to wait for the two funny animals to finish their tea party banquet. I made a sketch after washing the cup – the cup for the tea party. Not bad, they paid me $5 for each cup. I finished the last vinyl natural idea about just one night, 3 hours of nonstop work.
I do it behind the washing plates & cups that have not dried. Sorry, but this time, the process of execution, I accidentally used a bitmap-based program to get a natural impression.
Kooky love, draw me your impression of the Indian summer! Thanks ☺

Best regards,
