Interview with vomaria

From KGE, on 2011-11-30 at 19:00

Now what?

Now what? by vomaria

A fun retro t-shirt design for turtle fans, lets hear what vomaria has to tell us!

Hi Vomaria,

Could you briefly introduce yourself for those who don’t know you? How did you get into graphic design and why?

Hi everybody, I’m a Brazilian graphic designer and I use my own great-grandmother as my avatar. She is an inspiration for everybody I know, so I could think of nothing better than using her as my creative inspiration. I used to draw since I was this:

And then I entered a graphic design school to develop some further skills.

What is the story of “Now What” and how did the idea come to you?

First, I am very critical. I tend to find the “mistakes” in movies and cartoons, and laugh about them. I like to wonder how these fantastic things from my childhood would behave in the real world, in a real situation, where a very simple stumbling would cause a lot of damage. In this case, they would need other heroes to rescue them.

So you like the ninja Turtles? Did you own one as a child?

I love them, yes! Besides, my real name is Rafael, as one of them and I used to play with my brother holding forks to simulate his weapon in the cartoon. Lots of fun! In fact, I’ve never had a ninja turtle, they are hard to catch. This is how ninjas are.

Be creative

Be creative by Oxyd-Cygo

A dark humour t-shirt with a fishbowl on it, Oxyd-Cygo is explaining.

Hi Oxyd, nice to see you again.

It’s a pleasure. Let’s get a coffee or a beer, or both?!

What is the story behind “Be creative” and how came the idea to you?

The idea was to glorify creativity. It could have had another title. I wanted it to be funny and a little bit cynical. At first it was a human who tired himself to a stone in a pond with air balloons on his feet. Then I replaced the human with a fish out of the water. So I sketched it again and again and then the idea came out. Thanks to the strawberry community that made remarks on the first submission.

Have you ever owned a goldfish?

Yes sometimes I have one or two. I can see the three of us, just talking and having a conversation with some liquor. In the past I had 3 cats and a hen but they would not replace these two marvelous creatures.

Tooth protection

Tooth protection by Pandaluna

A funny and sweet t-shirt, pandaluna tells us more !

Hi Panda, nice to see you around again!

Hi nannyyyy !

What is the story of « Tooth protection » and how did the idea come to you?

It is a common story. The story came when I was walking and at the time when georgelemercemaire submitted lots of dental designs and I was wondering why this theme? Then I imagined a mean chupa chups that would attck a nice tooth and the nit went out of control to protect the little tooth … I’m talking about the gentle and muscled toothpaste J

Are you more for the Chupa Chups or dental protection?

Definitely for Chupa Chups, it’s so gooood! But bad teeth hurt so it’s kind of an eternal dilemma!

Did you love sweets as a kid and which were your favourite ones?

Why just as a kid?! My favourites were and remain the Smurfs ones, and I love the little acid drops (coffee flavoured hard candies with a red and white packaging American kids love). They’re not good for your teeth but good for you, to paraphrase a humorist.

love love love

love love love by xraysucks

A funny t-shirt that will bring the love and at least a smile back to us. Let`s find out what xraysucks think about it.

Hi xraysucks,

Could you briefly introduce yourself for those who don’t yet know you? How and why did you get into graphic design?

Hi laFraise, my name is Ray Wirawan aka xraysucks. I started out in graphic design early this year. In January, a friend of mine introduced me to laFraise. From that moment I knew I wanted to be part of the community, so I tried to start making my own designs. Then I learned how to make better designs using Ai. Now I love doing it!

What is the story of “love love love” and how did the idea come to you?

Well, the idea for the design “love love love” came from my previous design called “Orphan” with a hedgehog and a cactus that it thought was his mother, but then I made it more fun and fresher so I changed it to a hedgehog and a cactus with flower in his hand. I think, well this is an even better idea!

Could you please draw us a snowberry please?

July1969

July1969 by C0y0te7

Here is a new funny and astronomical t-shirt that will bring you to the moon ! C0y0te7 introduces itself.

Hi C0y0te7,

Please introduce yourself to the members of the community who don’t know you yet? How and why did you get into graphic design?

Hi everybody!

My pseudonym is a coyote with a James Bond’s touch so I write it with zeroes instead of “O”’s.

I’ve been drawing since I was a kid. One day I asked myself if there were any drawing courses on Internet and, with the magical wand that is Google, I found laFraise. I was drawing with coloured & graphite pencils. The fact that I have entered a competition got me motivated to improve myself. I love to analyze and dissect things to get to know them better and to get inspired.

What is the story behind “July 1969″ and how did you get the idea? Is it an ode to the first steps to the Moon? What has really inspired you?

“July 1969″ comes from a craving to use the curvilinear perspective. I thought it would give an interesting dynamic to the design. I first imagined two leak points connected by something that is deformed by this curvilinear perspective. The result was a ladder linking the Earth to the Moon. My first try showed the Earth and the Moon on a diagonal with a character climbing up the ladder.

Two years later I revisited this idea adding references to Apollo 11 to it. The Moon is added into the reflection of one of the helmets, to give more space to the astronaut’s details.

I almost forgot to say that I made a video about the making of July 1969.

Sorry about your ears, I kind of let myself go with the mix.

Would you like to go to the moon and would you pay the price for it?

The moon? I go there every day because I have the dreamer syndrome, head in the clouds and sometimes in the stars. I can invite you, it’s free I do not travel that much and if I had the opportunity and I accept, the moon would be already colonised by Humans and there would be Internet and I could still go to laFraise.com!

Could you please draw us your interpretation of Indian summer?

My interpretation of what? Thanks to the readers of laFraise’s blog and catch me on FB.

le bocal

Le bocal by Eown

A monster t-shirt that will bring guests in the dark with the glow in the dark ink. Check out what Eown says about it.

Eown, pleased to talk to you again!

What is the story behind this beautiful jar and how did you get the idea? You like monsters and bugs, don’t you? What did you like about using glow in the dark ink?

At first I wanted to make a design based on the movie SOS Ghost thinking about compressed ghosts in a hoover. I wanted to draw “Eat all” and having food instead of the fly. As it is glow in the dark in the movie, I thought directly about the ink. And then I told myself that the reference to the movie was not necessary.

SosFantomesBouffeTout

Do monsters still scare you?

Yep the monster in the toilets from X Files.

What is your problem with microbes and bacteria, really?!

We have to get back to my childhood when I got the measles quite bad, and ever since I’ve fought against microbes with engaged shirts like this one
