Bloody cute: the winners

From Dave (Crew), on 2010-09-23 at 15:30

I’d first like to thank everyone for this fantastic contest! It was loads of fun, with a gallery full of really good designs and a total of 279 submissions accepted. Yeah! Making a choice was, as always, very bloody difficult. We finally decided to select two designs for printing (this will change the prizes a little). The lucky winners of the Bloody Cute Contest are:

First place: Print on 500 laFraise shirts
+ 1 Wacom INTUOS4 L graphic tablet

121881

Cute Cat by happyfish

We came to a decision within a few minutes for this design – now we just need to decide with happyfish which color shirt we will use (cream or light blue…)

•••

Second place: Print on 500 laFraise shirts
+ 1 Pantone Colour Guide  and 1 calibration tool

121741

Pomelo is dead by Ted Boundy

Ted is back with this gruesome design! And we are very happy to send another of his designs to the printer.

•••

Third place: 1 Pantone Colour Guide  and 1 calibration tool

121920

Chamallow by Eown

Marie was really, really sad that she wasn’t able to convince the crew to award a third print for the Contest (she was hoping to see this on a hoodie).

•••

Honorable Mention: 1 free shirt

121792

to Lufograph. This was another one of our favourite submissions, and he submitted several good designs for this contest. Certainly worth a mention!

Congrats to the winners, and thanks again to everyone who participated

Winner of the week

From Marie (Crew), on 2010-09-02 at 15:42

This week’s selection will delight all city folk. Congrats to Pasquéoz for his design:

WTA

Where to attack?

Limited edition print on 500 sand (colour) t-shirts. You will notice a small change on the score sheet with the addition of the “poop in your face” (who hasn’t been afraid of this before?). Now, two open questions still remain:
1. In the comments, some of you suggested that the pigeon’s face be a bit more carnal. Pasquéoz is neither for nor against this idea – so we wanted to ask you again your point of view here.
2. During the selection meeting, Jana proposed that we put some fake poop on the shirt’s shoulder. What do you think?

•••

Second place: 1 free shirt

120908

World domination by Radiomode

Very beautiful design – quite normal for Radiomode – but we were more seduced by the pigeon.

•••

Third place: 1300 brouzoufs

increased

Bears evolution by autopilot

Welcome to laFraise autopilot! Pretty good for a first submission… but there are some things that would really strengthen the design. There is a lot of great advice in the comments to improve this design, and maybe get it printed with your next submission.

Congrats to you guys and thanks to all participants!

A Bloody Christmas at laFraise

From Marie (Crew), on 2010-08-27 at 13:30

bloody.cute

This year we won’t be doing a classic, run of the mill Christmas contest. Instead of the usual Christmasy tralala, we will approach the season from a different direction and have some awesome gifts for the winners.

First thing’s first: the topic: cute designs are a big hit at laFraise, but they should never really be too over-the-top sugar sweet. That’s why we have come up with a topic that should hit the spot, whether you are submitting a design or voting on it: Bloody Cute. I don’t think I have to interpret the multiple meanings for you and I expect this to be a joy for both spectator and designer!

So, let’s take a look at what Santa Claus has hidden in his sack of goodies. The winning designer will get the €1,000 for the print along with a Wacom Intuos4L pen tablet (I’m really jealous!).

Our winners podium will be very tempting this time around: second place will also receive the Wacom Intuos4L pen tablet, while the third place winner will get a Pantone colour chart and a monitor calibration tool.

Who will be able to join Gprod’s Cute Killer in this uncontested corner of laFraise? That is the question which will be answered at the end of September.

Designs can be submitted between 30 August and 13 September 2010 at 3:30 pm CET. Voting will continue through the following week.

I wish you all the best, and don’t forget to have fun!

Words on the Gaia Contest by Marius Bauer

From J3Concepts (Crew), on 2010-07-13 at 10:02

Good morning lafraisiens!

As a member of this great community I am so happy to team up with the laFraise crew and all of you on our Gaia Contest being in full swing right now. Gaia is a community project to raise awareness for climate change through digital art.
I started the Gaia Project in 2007 with a group of talented designers from great communities such as the Behance Network and deviantArt. Everyone, equal if professional, passionate or engaged is invited to join our team. Altogether we have over 5,000 actively engaged artists all over the world from France, Germany, Sweden, India, China, USA to Africa, creating digital art for the Gaia Project. I believe in the community. And I am convinced we all as a powerful and actively engaged swarm are the ones to change our world for the better. But what can we do? Let´s do what we do best here! Create beautiful illustrations and remind people of the beauty of mother nature. I know all of you have great talent to do this and beside this there are great prices waiting for you!

Contest theme:The Beauty of Mother Nature
You have 7 days left to show your unique view of mother natures beauty. Almost every artist mentions nature as a main inspiration for her or his work. The amazing amount of detail, the beauty of aesthetics and harmonic shapes. Or the beautiful mess of raw nature. The Gaia Project is a positive movement based on this beauty. It is a project to raise awareness for this beauty and remind us about it while creating our art, sharing it with our friends and presenting it on our computer screens, mobile devices and soon one beautiful T-Shirt ;). Your message will spread all over the world and everyone seeing this design will be reminded and surely do something good to our planet. This is our philosophy and everyone´s who is joining us. So open up your creative tool of choice and join us the next 8 days!

The prize: 1000€, 500 Prints, exclusive artist features on the Ouidoo Gaian mobile device and an interview on the Gaia website!
I know how hard it sometimes is to be recognized as an artist. And I care about all the members of the Gaia Community. So I talked to our partners this year and we have excellent prices waiting for you!
Thanks to our great laFraise crew the winner of this contest will get excellent exposure having the design printed on 500 organic shirts plus 1000€. As there are already submissions representing the beauty of mother nature we also decided to give the participants even more chances to be recognized on a big platform. A selected series of great submissions will be exclusively featured on the Ouidoo Gaian mobile our partner QderoPateo will release later this year.
Your work will come pre-installed with every sold device as a wallpaper to be used by a big community of clients! Not that this is amazing enough, if our partner loves your design even more they will create a public commercial for the Ouidoo Gaian with your great talent in the team.

And most important: Inspiration! So what are you going to create? Need some inspiration to get into the groove? I collected some of the most beautiful works we recieved last year plus my favorite movie related to climate change.
Not enough? Then download a free copy of our music album from last year here!

Find artists for collaboriatons

Now get started and join the Gaia movement. You have 7 days left!

New contest: Gaïa

Teaser_Gaïa contest

The Gaia Project started in 2007 and has helped raise awareness for climate change as an open source community project to create digital art for this cause. In the last four years, a group of 5,000 designers – members from laFraise, Behance, deviantArt and other big design websites – joined them to create designs, music and articles around this major theme.

They also worked with Greenpeace Brazil last year and Mozez the singer from the Band Zero7. This year they are already talking to the WWF, great designers and musicians from all over the world.

The man behind Gaia is Sublevel, a member of laFraise since 2008, and selected 3 times – My broken heart, Circles, Unity. So when he presented his project to us, we decided to support him, convinced that you would follow us along on a poetic contest.

We are very happy to launch the Gaia Contest next Monday on laFraise.

Your mission
We invite you to create an ode to mother nature, a design which represents the beauty and diversity of nature. You should not really focus on one theme, one animal or one plant, but more on the beautiful mess that nature is. Lovers of detail, this contest is for you!

Restrictions
The winning design will be printed on an Organics Shirt, so the t-shirt’s colour is limited to the 6 colors which are available for our Organic Shirts: dijon, light blue, light grey, Mocca, red coral and white.

Submissions
From Monday 5 July to Monday 19 July – 3:30 p.m. CET
+ one week for voting.

Prize
1 winning design = €1,000
Printed on 500 laFraise Organic Shirts.

Classic and Typo winners

From Marie (Crew), on 2010-07-01 at 16:43

CLASSIC SELECTION

Our classic selection this week is a recovery, but don’t see anything pejorative. The reason is the same than for the selection of Love green. When we cannot agree for the winner of the week, we prefer to have a look at the latest podium.

Congrats BPM for his design: Deuxième couche.

117996

Concerning the color of the shirt, we are thinking about red instead of coral (easier to wear for a guy, but feel free to give another idea in the comments) and a version without the text, because the design speaks for itself.

•••

2nd place: 1 free t-shirt

118696

Tapekey by Cosmosnail

•••

3rd place: 1300 brouzoufs

118761

Pool party by radiomode

TYPO WINNER

Back to the briefing: you should concentrate only on the typography, the font, the symbols – which is why we want you to limit your design to 1 colour (2 if you include the colour of the shirt). And because you should be focusing on the text, you will need a strong slogan, a cool saying, a brilliant idea in order to create a masterpiece typography shirt.

The magic formula is:
1 font + 1 great slogan + 1 colour
= 1 sweet laFraise t-shirt

That’s exactly the formula we used to select the winner. For this contest, as usual, we received a lot of good designs ; as usual, it was difficult to do the selection. We hope to see some designs again, for the Classic contest.

So… now please congrat monry who wins with his design Based on a true story.

118334

He wins also two Pantone colour guides (coated and uncoated), offered by Sigma Graphic.

Just like Reack who receives this gift for his second place with his great typo job Making Mistakes:

Thanks to all participants.

New contest: Typo

We will start a new contest this coming Monday and the theme is: typography. We’ve already had a similar contest before, which is why we have made the contest rules a little more challenging:

typo_contest

You should concentrate only on the typography, the font, the symbols – which is why we want you to limit your design to 1 colour (2 if you include the colour of the shirt).

And because you should be focusing on the text, you will need a strong slogan, a cool saying, a brilliant idea in order to create a masterpiece typography shirt.

The magic formula is:
1 font
1 great slogan
1 colour
= 1 sweet laFraise t-shirt

The contest runs from Monday June 7th to Monday June 21th with an additional week for votes.

We will choose at least one winner… and possibly more.

Good luck!!

Color Contest: The winners

From Marie (Crew), on 2010-06-03 at 13:30

Thanks to all participants to the Color contest who made it very, very hard for us to select a winner. Which is why we decided to pick two! The two winners offer us a sorbet to savour this summer, flavoured with mint and apricot …

orangutan

Jungle, sex and sun by Lulu
Printed on 500 laFraise’s apricot t-shirts.

However, without King-Kong due to copyright – but that doesn’t change anything in this fantastic design.

The second selection is a bit a familly story: Becky will join Anita to our shop !

Pretty Becky

Pretty Becky by FrigoBanjo
Printed on 500 laFraise’s mint t-shirts.

Along with the joy of being printed on laFraise shirts and €1,000 each, Lulu and FirgoBanjo will each get two Pantone colour guides (coated and uncoated), offered by Sigma Graphic.
