The EU blog has been a bit too much about “serious business” lately so I decided to do a little something to entertain you… ;)
I do have a reason for doing this (besides making an ass out of myself). Last saturday I attended a party with my dear girlfriend and some people were playing Singstar. It didn’t take me long to find out that while I’m actually pretty curious about the whole thing I’m also really really afraid of singing – especially when there are other people around. Being afraid of silly things is just that; silly. So, I decided to face my fears. Buying Singstar and publishing my first performance on YouTube was pretty much the most extreme way to do that so that’s exactly what I did.
Well, now I’m not afraid of singing anymore but only a lousy singer.
Whenever I travel I pretty much always take a bottle or two with me and that has proven to be a tradition I should stick to. When I visited Paris, Sophie got a couple of bottles of Salmiakkikoskenkorva. Now that I've been visiting Berlin Maïa got some Vana Tallinn and on my last visit Guillaume got a bottle of Marskin Ryyppy. The laFraise team certainly doesn't spit on you if you offer any of us a drink. Some prefer beer, some wine and a occasional shot of vodka is nice too.
The weekend is soon here and since that's when most alcohol is consumed I thought it would be cool to have a game about that. Let's make it simple. If laFraise was a drink, what would go in it? Some rules though; the drink you're building can't contain more than 8cl of alcohol (which is actually quite a bit – Long Island Ice Tea only has 7,5cl), at least 4 ingredients should be used and the maximum size of a glass to be used is 50cl. This doesn't mean that you couldn't write recipes for smaller drinks or simple cocktails – they're appreciated just as well.
You've got only two hours to complete this task – your entry should be in before 6pm Helsinki time (GMT +2). I will notify the froggies and krauts (no offence intended, I'm just messing with you) too, so beware of the competition!
The winner gets enough brouzoufs for a t-shirt from our selection (shipping included). Brouzoufs will be transferred immediately after the game. Have fun! I know I will because when I've posted this I'll go make myself a drink.
There not much to write about this thing but I thought you might want to know what I was doing for the most of the day yesterday. Proteus, “the king of hard dance and the prince of fetish” is publishing a new album in a while and I spent 7 hours shooting promo photos with him. Some 600 frames later we decided to call it a day and went home. The images you see below are just black and white previews – I haven’t had time to edit any of them yet.
The last photo is here just to show you we had loads of fun doing this too. Proteus is a friend of mine and I’m honoured that he still wants me to shoot his promos even now that he’s a world class DJ and a producer. After all, I know he could get many other photographers to shoot him even free of charge and those guys would probably be better than I’m too.
Today we’re shooting some more in the afternoon. Hopefully we’ll have the cover for the album before the Finnish darkness falls over us.
People have all kinds of bizarre (yet very fun) hobbies. When I was a kid Legos were pretty much the best thing I knew. I could’ve just kept on going playing with them endlessly and built huge things out of them. Starship Enterprise (on a pretty large scale too) is something I can clearly recall having built and with my personality it was surely destroyed soon after it was finished. I also won a Lego building competition on our trip to Sweden when I was 10 or so. For a kid that was highlight of the whole trip.
Some guys are taking building Legos far further than that though. Well, I’ve seen all kinds of massive structures built out them but that’s not too impressive really. Any obsessed maniac could do given enough time and a few truckloads of blocks. This time a fully functional Lego slot machine has been though and it’s pretty darn cool.
Seeing that thing makes me want to turn my parents garage upside down. With any luck they might still have my Legos. If you don’t hear anything about me in a few weeks you’ll know what I’m doing and where I’m at. After the first week I’d appreciate if you sent in a couple of pizzas and a sixpack. ;)
If you want to be the coolest kid on your block you've got to get yourself one of these.
Since it’s about 11.40pm on a Sunday night (when I started to write this) I’ve still got time to make one more entry for the week.
This week we’ve been talking about sex, love and all that. While I was in Berlin I did a couple of things that kind of fit the theme. In December I found a pretty nice photo printed on canvas put didn’t have the money to buy it. To be honest I wasn’t even sure I wanted it. When I got back to Finland I started making plans for my new bedroom and decided that the photo would be perfect for it. So, I went back to the gallery on this trip and bought it. Surprisingly it was a whole lot cheaper than I thought it would it.
It’ll look nice hanging on wall over my bed but I’ll probably take it down when my grandparents are visiting me. Even though they’re really cool somehow I don’t think they’ll appreciate the gothic theme I’m planning for the room and the photo might quite literally be a heart stopper for them.
Like I told you, I planned on paying Fassbender & Rausch a visit. I’m glad I did – the place is just amazing. Not all chocolate should be considered a luxury but the type they’re selling is definitely just that and nothing else. Seeing so my chocolate all at the same time would probably drive many people crazy and it took me to the edge of insanity too. Chocolate is sexy!
Originally I was only planning on buying Tiina a box of chocolates (She got 24 carefully handpicked pieces of that. I admit that I felt a bit lost with the selection they had so I asked a female clerk to pick them for her – “pick them like they’d be for you.”) but couldn’t really stop there. Now I’ve got a wooden “Chocoholics” box here and I also got a smaller box of chocolates for my dear friend Pinkki.
From this point on there no visiting Berlin without visiting F&B. Gotta love them.
This week has been somewhat interesting in all three laFraise blogs. Maïa encouraged me and Fine to include some personal stuff when we were writing about sex. It was actually quite liberating and fun and hopefully you didn't get shocked too much by it. I'd guess it's safe to say you didn't – after all I didn't write anything too explicit but just made a couple of little revelations.
Even if the Valentine's day was already yesterday we'll continue the theme until the end of the week. Guess what? Yup, that means you get to participate too.
Sex isn't a serious issue even if it's sometimes presented that way. So, it's the time to tell us about your funniest sexual experience so far. Take a trip down the memory lane and think about the times you were having sex on the backseat of a car when it was freezing cold outside and couldn't quite enjoy the whole thing because of the akward position, the time you did it in a sauna and felt like your heart was about to explode because of the heat, the time you banged that ”not quite miss Universe” in front of a church in the middle of the night and most of your concentration was given to the beautiful city lights instead of the thing you should've been focusing on, the time you woke up without knowing where the hell you were but instantly knew that it was the time to silently put on your clothes on and run like the wind or the time you almost got fired because you just didn't give a damn about it and made sweet love to your boss' ex-girlfriend all night long. No, Wait? That's my life, write about yours!
The most entertaining story wins enough brouzoufs for a t-shirt from our selection (shipping included, as always). You've got until 9pm (GMT) to drop our jaws. Have fun. I know I will! :D
Hopefully you have the chance to share your day with that someone special. There's nothing quite better than having a person that makes your eyes sparkle and fills your head with so much pink cotton candy that you can hardly think let alone speak. When just looking or thinking about someone turns your face into a weird smile that makes your cheeks hurt you're on the right track. Now that I think of it I know one better thing though; seeing the same smile on that special someone's face when she/he looks at you. Only the feeling of being loved beats the feeling of being in love yourself.
My special girl and I are a sea apart at the moment and that makes me feel a bit lousy. Even though Valentine's day isn't a huge thing in my home country I'd still like to spend it with her. Yesterday I went shoe shopping and got her a pair of Onitsuka Tiger's Tai Chi sneakers – maybe not the most romantic gift ever but I know she likes shoes and I thought they were pretty. I'm so looking forward to the moment when I get to give them to her. At the same time I'm a bit worried somehow; what if they don't fit perfectly? Should I have bought something else instead? There's actually no need to buy the world for her. She appreciated a couple of tender words a whole lot more than anything I could ever buy. Still that's something I want to do because I know she'll be happy. So, today I'll do my best to find a nice chocolaterie too. I actually found one called Fassbender & Rausch already but actually finding my way there in this city will be an adventure.
Tomorrow I'm flying back home. Even if I like Berlin a lot today I don't want to be here. It's not the city but the fact that I'm alone here even if I'm surrounded by friendly coworkers and other nice people.
Later on today I'll post a few tips for those of you that are looking for a valentine. It's not going to be a complete guide into dating (because I'm hardly qualified when it comes to that) but more of a list of places and ways to meet people.
Love makes you do all kinds of funny things. This is a pretty lame example, but the itching on my chest reminds me that there isn't much I wouldn't do for my girl. Little over a week ago she suddenly asked me if I could shave my chesthair (I still don't know if she really had any reason for that – it was probably just for the hell of it) and since I'm not particurlarly emotionally attached to them anyway I did just that. The problem is that those damn things start growing back within a few days and if you don't shave them again immediately you prepare yourself for the itchy city blues. In a funny way I don't mind that; now that I'm in Berlin it's quite sure that my girl is constantly on my mind when the shoulder strap of my laptop case is rubbing my chest.
It's not like I wouldn't ask for some peculiar things every now and then myself. I've recently realized I'm into shoes and I don't mean anything like collecting sneakers for myself. I like high heels on a girl and I cannot lie. Boots with high heels are even better. Black leather boots with straps and high heels are the best. I've tried to analyze this little fetish of mine and the conclusion I've reached is as follows; it's probably not really the shoes I'm into but asking for something out of the ordinary. It's quite stimulating to ask for something a little bit unusual (”Darling, would you wear a pair of boots just for me while we're making love tonight?”) and to know that your loved one won't really ask too many questions about it before just doing it for you.
If your partner thinks that you're a dumbass for asking anything else than the good 'ol missionary position under the sheets and with lights turned off you're probably not with the right person anyway. I'm not saying you should go for ANYTHING just because your partner wants that but love makes you accept the other person and her/his needs and I feel doing little experimentations is always in order.
It's not really about having power over someone or anything like that but more about knowing that the person that is the most important for you feels the same way and is therefore ready to do simple little things as a ”favor.” Naturally I'll return the favor gladly (as shaving my chest shows) anytime. It's not always that easy to express one's feelings simply with a bunch of words and doing something special (however funny it may seem) is a great way to show how you feel.
What about you? What kind of stuff have you done in the name of love? Step out of the closet and share it with the rest of us.
