Hi Eyesore427,

Please introduce yourself in a few words, tell us who you are and where you come from. How and why did you become a graphic designer?

My name is Morgan Satria and I’m from Indonesia. Previously I was a comic artist and t-shirts designer in my town. But I think that having two professions at the same time is very troublesome. Then I decided to choose graphic designer as my profession and I’ve enjoyed it since!

How did you conceive your design “Catch me” and how did you get the idea? What inspired you and what is the story behind it?

I imagined a giraffe’s neck as a long and flexible strap. Moving followed the bee and ended up stuck in a difficult position.

Catch me

What is your favourite animal at the zoo? Giraffes?

No. My favourite animal is the tiger.

Can you please also speak about the upcoming design from the pin-up contest? What is the story behind and was it simple to find out?

Because the theme of the contest is the pin-up, first in my mind is a beautiful woman with a sexy pose. I saw many classic pin up styles, but I wanted to do it in other styles. I think piles of candy and colourful stockings will make my design look more modern and fun. After I was 100% sure about this concept, I started by making some rough sketches on paper and then choosing the best one of them. working on inking, colouring on the computer and submitted it to the contest. That’s it! A few days later I received the great news from laFraise. My design won!

Candy girl

Does this pin-up correspond to the girls you kinda like?

Yes. She is exactly what I imagined.

How long have you known laFraise and how did you find us?

I think about more than one year. I know laFraise from my brother who is already a member in here.

If you would recommend us, what would you say?

laFraise is a great site contest for artists around the world. The selection of winners is very transparent based on the highest score, and this is very fair.

Do you have hobbies other than drawing? What are they?

Yes. I love cycling.

What are your expectations for this year?

Be much better than the previous year.

Could you please draw us your interpretation of strawberries with Chantilly cream? Thanks for the interview and the drawing!

OK.

blog_interviews_EN

Hi Chicharo,

Please introduce yourself in a few words, tell us who you are and where you come from. How and why did you become a graphic designer?

I am a graphic DesigNerd and illustrator from Mérida, a little city in Yucatán México (the place where the meteorite hit and destroyed the dinosaurs). I’ve been drawing since I can remember, I’ve always liked character design and lately t-shirt design and web design.

How did you conceive your design “hot bath” and how did you get the idea? What inspired you and what is the story behind it?

Well here in my city is very usual to sink cookies into hot chocolate until they get soft and we call it “chuc” and that’s where the hot bath idea comes from.

hot bath

Bath vs shower?

Bath, I prefer to take my time =)

Would you prefer to dip your biscuits into a cup of tea or hot chocolate?

Hot Chocolate for tradition.

Do you like cakes, biscuits etc and do you have a sweet tooth?

Yes I do very much like them, especially chocolate and ice cream combinations.

How long have you known laFraise and how did you find us?

Since 2011, I believe I found it by googling web sites about funny t-shirt designs.

If you would recommend us, what would you say?

I’d say that if you are looking for fun and smart tees, laFraise is a great choice.

Do you have hobbies other than drawing? What are they?

I like science fiction flicks, collecting notebooks of drawings, and playing video games. Actually I’m stuck with portal 2 :P

What are your expectations for this year?

I’d love to enhance my illustrations skills and to get more jobs related to it.

Could you please draw us your interpretation of strawberries with Chantilly cream? Thanks for the interview and the drawing!

Interview with superbourdi

From Nathalie (Crew), on 2013-02-25 at 11:00

blog_interviews_EN

Hello Superbourdi,

- Can you introduce yourself in a few words? Who are you, where are you from and why/how have you become an illustrator?

Hello LaFraise! I am a 24-year old male from a small village in the south of France called Clion/Seugne in Charente Maritime. I left this cushy little village to study in Angoulême, but then went into hiding like a hermit in la Creuse for as long as 2 years. I eventually ended up in La Rochelle, made a few contacts there, and today I’m something like a director in a fine little agency for communication services. And if you’re a part-time superhero who’s keeping busy to save the world from evil villans, your agenda can be pretty crammed at times.

- Can you tell us how the design ‘Tranche d’oeufs’ came about?  What was your source of inspiration?

If I draw things for myself, I rearely have a pre-fabricated idea. I never feel like pushing myself, because I’m a rather lazy guy. Usually I get going with a few very abstract ideas or shapes, and then I take it from there.  As soon as an idea has developed a little bit, it enfolds all by itself. When skribbling the first draft to Tranche d’oeufs, I was sitting in a restaurant. The food must have inspired me somehow.

tranch' oeufs

- Do you like eggs, and how do you like them best!

I love eggs! Fried eggs, boilt eggs, omlette, scrambled eggs, egg salad, whipped egg whites…  A small question: Can you eat eggs that are past their ‘best by date’ by a couple of days?

- Do you like karate movies?

Absolutely. But I need to say that I did karate for a matter of 6 years when I was a child, but only because I was a fan of Dragon Ball Z.

- How long have you known laFraise? And how did you become aware of this little fruit?

My buddy “Meuhnon“ (Articho) introduced me to laFraise when we were students at university.

- If you were to recommend laFraise to someone, what would you say?

“Just give it a go, there will be cream on top!”

- Do you have any hobbies other than drawing? And if so, which?

I like playing Copter online, and I like going to the cinema and eating raclette.

- What are your resolutions for the New Year?

I would like to have an exhibition, design new t-shirts, avoid unpleasant meetings with dificult people and continue to lead a happy life.

- Could you sketch your version of strawberries and cream for us? Thank you for this interview, and for the sketch!

Interview with Legov

From Nathalie (Crew), on 2012-12-03 at 11:00

blog_interviews_EN

Hi Legov,
Please introduce yourself in a few words. Tell us who you are and where you come from? Could you tell us how and why you became a graphic designer?

Well, I am Job de Vogel a.k.a. Legov. I live in Holland, nearby Utrecht. At daytime I work as a graphic designer, designing corporate identities, websites, annual reports, ads, etc. etc. At night I transform into LEGOV, an illustrator and painter who designs shirts and creates paintings.
What brought you to the idea of creating your design ‘I smell… banana? What inspired you to use a gorilla and what is the story behind it?

A while ago a breakout of a gorilla, Bokito, occurred in one of the zoos in The Netherlands. That incident was the source of inspiration to make this particular design.

I smell banana

Do you like bananas yourself? Explain the special relationship you have with gorillas?

I prefer strawberries. :) I do have a special relationship with gorillas. In fact, I do speak some ‘Gorillian’. For instance: ‘Oe oe oe ah ah!’ and ‘Oeoea a a a a!’

Have you seen ‘Gorillas in the Mist’ a 1988 movie featuring Sigourney Weaver as Dian Fossey? What do you think of endangered species and the Human Being future in general?

Yes, I have seen the movie. It’s a great movie about an extraordinary woman. People sometimes don’t realise the beauty of our planet. We tend to forget that the world isn’t ours only. It is one to share with all species. Just because people are smarter than animals doesn’t necessarily mean that we should exclude animals from certain rights.

Although I’m not as brave as Diane Fossey or even the people at the Sea Shepherd, I became a vegetarian based on my beliefs concerning animal rights and animal cruelty.
Had you heard of laFraise before and how did you get to know us?
I have known laFraise for probably two years now and I discovered it by coincidence.
If you recommend us, what will you say?
LaFraise.com is a very clear site where you can buy great designs made by very talented people. Besides that they have great service.

Do you have any other hobbies other than drawing?
Not really. I have a beautiful wife, three children and a fulltime job. So, besides drawing and painting, there is no time left for me to practice other hobbies.
What are your expectations for this year?
I will have my first exhibition of my paintings at the end of the year. Hopefully next year will be a productive period. I´d really like to have some exhibitions next year. Creating more designs for laFraise is also one of things on the to-do-list-in- 2013.
Could you please draw us your interpretation of strawberries with Chantilly cream? Thanks for the interview and the drawing!

Thank you for the interview. It was an honor.

Interview with sardinecosmique

From Nathalie (Crew), on 2012-10-29 at 11:00

blog_interviews_EN

Hi Sardinecosmique,

Please introduce yourself in a few words. Who are you, where are you from and why have you become an illustrator?

Hi guys, I’m sardinecosmique, and in real life my name is Anaïs de Sousa. I love painting, and that’s the only thing I can do really well – so I studied illustration! Now I’m doing an MA in graphic design, and I’m loving it.

Can you tell us how the design ‘Air music‘ came about, and how the idea for it came up? Did you have a special source of inspiration?

I was drawing a dinosaur playing air guitar, which I thought looked fun. So I created a few more dinosaurs, and laFraise gave me a few friendly suggestions that helped come up with the final design. So here is a big THANK YOU to the person who helped me there!

Air music by sardinecosmique

Does this mean that you like Guitar Hero? And do you play air guitar yourself?

Yep, I love Guitar Hero! And even if I have to confess that I don’t play air guitar myself, I do have a lot of respect for people who do. A promising start to musical careers!

How long have you known laFraise, and how did you become aware of this tasty little fruit?

By pure chance I discovered laFraise 3 or 4 years ago, and I thought the concept was really great. So I tried to submit a few designs. And since there are quite a number of really talented people at laFraise, they give you a push into the right direction.

If you wanted to recommend laFraise to somebody, what would you tell them?

That laFraise is a great website with great t-shirts!

Are you up to anything else other than drawing?

Dinosaurs, food (i.e. bacon and pizza) and video games. And of course watching people play air guitar!

What’s on the agenda for this year and next?

To come up with more good ideas for designs on laFraise, and to graduate from university.

Can you draw a version of strawberries and cream for us? Thank you for taking the time, and for the drawing!

A week = A designer

From Nathalie (Crew), on 2012-09-24 at 15:00

Randyotter is a young English designer from Southampton and is currently studying at the University of Coventry. In the two years that he’s been at laFraise, Randyotter has submitted some really cool and funny designs – just the kind of designs that we love.

We haven’t done an interview with Randyotter yet, so that’s why I suggest you have a look at his work. His first print at laFraise is a great place to start!

Interview with Pandaluna

From Nathalie (Crew), on 2011-11-23 at 20:00

Tooth protection

Tooth protection by Pandaluna

A funny and sweet t-shirt, pandaluna tells us more !

Hi Panda, nice to see you around again!

Hi nannyyyy !

What is the story of « Tooth protection » and how did the idea come to you?

It is a common story. The story came when I was walking and at the time when georgelemercemaire submitted lots of dental designs and I was wondering why this theme? Then I imagined a mean chupa chups that would attck a nice tooth and the nit went out of control to protect the little tooth … I’m talking about the gentle and muscled toothpaste J

Are you more for the Chupa Chups or dental protection?

Definitely for Chupa Chups, it’s so gooood! But bad teeth hurt so it’s kind of an eternal dilemma!

Did you love sweets as a kid and which were your favourite ones?

Why just as a kid?! My favourites were and remain the Smurfs ones, and I love the little acid drops (coffee flavoured hard candies with a red and white packaging American kids love). They’re not good for your teeth but good for you, to paraphrase a humorist.

Could you please complete the following with a drawing ? Crocus in the meadow …
