laFraise: the selection of the week

From Thomas (Crew), on 2012-07-12 at 15:30

Unbelievable! Another week has passed and the votings have been very close. After some final coordination and matching we decided clearly and that´s how winners look like! Very nice to see that there are always designs  made in a simple way catching our eyes and telling a fantastic story… and this with less than 3 colors! The opposite is our second winner. It is not a typical laFraise one but somehow it fits perfectly to us. Some may like it and some may not but we do! Don´t forget to have a look at our podium! It´s awesomely cute!

renegades of funk

Renegades of funk by Madcobra

A funky t-shirt design for all those who remember the funky tape time !

Hi Madcobra,

Hey guys ‘sup!

Could you please introduce to those who don’t know you yet? How did you start into graphic design?

My name is Pedro Josué Carvajal Ramirez Aka Madcobra I’m 28 and I’m from Santo Domingo / Dominican Republic (Latin America). I’m a graphic designer / illustrator and I went to the Santo Domingo School of Art in 2001. I didn’t finish, just made it until the last year, but to be honest my first experience with art happened when I was 8. I really love drawing all types of machinery or mechanic environments even if it was a bunch of doodles. I still remember my first battle tank…. “great piece indeed”. Anyway, you can also find my work here.

What is the story “Renegades of funk” and how did you get the idea? Was is difficult to make and how long did it take?

Renegades of funk is the title of one of my favourite songs which Rage Against The Machine remade from Afrika Bambaataa. This song really inspired the renegade inside me so I decided to make a tribute of that great age. The original sketch was quite different. It was a friend who told me: why don’t you use the cassette only and…. Well you know the rest.

Do you like funk music? What kind of music do you listen to the most?

I do like funk music, especially the 80’s but actually my favourite genre is trip-hop.

Are you nostalgic for cassette tapes? What was your first CD?

You would never know how much. I even have a small collection I think I never got tired of them. My first CD was from a Spanish band called “Heroes del silencio”.

2 Designs to be Printed in Limited Editions of 500 Shirts

Noisy detective by georgeslemercenaire

Georges impresses with yet another magically illustrated and detailed design. The smoke with its hidden images, the fox playing  a violin – there’s much left up to the imagination to discover what it all means. But we loved it!

Back in the day a pencil (remember those?) was used to get that tape back into cassettes (remember those?). This funky t-shirt design with hair pic is a classic for music fans who want to take a trip down memory lane.
