Hi Hartzack,
Could you please introduce yourself in a few words, tell us who you are and where do you come from? Could you tell us how and why you became a graphic designer?
Well, my real name is Daniel and I live in Madrid, Spain. Since I have memory, as is typical in these types of interviews, I will say that I love drawing and art in general. I never considered myself an artist and I think that is why I started late to try to exploit my facets :-) I was attracted to the world of 3D and dreamed of working in video games but after a closer look I opted for the 2D and artwork that was what really inspired me.
Could you tell us how did you conceive your design Peach in wonderland and how did the idea come? What has inspired you and what is the story behind it?
This design is actually a collaboration with a fellow guild called “Terceralegion”. The initial idea was always based on the world of Super Mario Bros but was focused elsewhere. My colleague told me about a concept of Mario overweight by eating mushrooms in excess and translate this into an illustration that showed the princess helping mario to enter the door of the castle that could not go alone because of its size . Then I gave him a few times and quickly saw the concept clearer focus it to “Alice in Wonderland” and the famous cookies to wax and wane, which certainly were an inspiration to Shigeru Miyamoto in creating his work. Then simply find a middle ground between the two references aesthetically and the result was the cause of this interview i think :-)
Are you a fan of Alice in wonderland? Or do you like the singer Peaches? ;-)
“Alice in Wonderland” is not particularly one of my favorite references but I think it’s a great book full of imagination and very popularly known. I think for these causes is very recurrent among modern designers.
How long do you know laFraise and how did you know us?
I think I know the page for more or less one year and the knowledge from page “Pampling”. Specifically met “La Fraise” from designers that published in both pages.
If you would recommend us, what would you say?
I honestly think it’s a stylish page with great designs and even more great artists behind these.
Have you got other hobbies than drawing, which are?
I love music, it is very typical but it’s true: D. I’ve spent years playing guitar but never got to play well: D. I think there is no musical style that hates because there are good things in all but I usually enjoy the music more than the lyrics in the songs.
What are your expectations for this year and the next one?
I hope to continue to grow in this business and can get to make a living with theillustrations. To decrease slightly the global crisis and peace for all.
